Event Recap: Pharmacist's Role in Improving Patient Care

On the 1st  of June, 2024, the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka (PSSL) hosted an insightful and impactful event titled "Pharmacist's Role in Improving Patient Care" at PharmAdya. This free program was exclusively designed for practicing pharmacists with the primary aim of updating their knowledge and enhancing their skills.

Event Overview

The event commenced at 9:00 am, attracting over 75 dedicated pharmacists eager to expand their professional horizons. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to advancing patient care.

Keynote Speakers and Topics

The program featured a lineup of eminent speakers, all affiliated with the University of Sydney, Australia. Their presentations covered critical aspects of pharmacy practice and its impact on patient outcomes:

1.    Pharmacists' Role in Medication Review and Improved Patient Care

   Presented by Prof. Rebekah Moles, this session delved into the vital role pharmacists play in conducting thorough medication reviews to ensure optimal patient care. Prof. Moles highlighted various strategies and best practices for enhancing medication safety and effectiveness.

2.    Interprofessional Collaborative Work for Better Patient Care

Prof. Timothy Chen emphasized the importance of interprofessional collaboration in healthcare. His talk explored how pharmacists can work alongside other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and cohesive patient care, ultimately improving health outcomes.

3.    Pharmacists' Role in Appropriate Use of Antibiotics: Empirical Evidence from Sri Lanka and Vietnam

Dr. Shukry Zawahir presented compelling empirical evidence from Sri Lanka and Vietnam on the crucial role pharmacists play in the appropriate use of antibiotics. Dr. Zawahir's insights underscored the pharmacist's responsibility in combating antibiotic resistance and ensuring the rational use of these vital medications.

The event was a resounding success, with attendees gaining valuable knowledge and practical insights that they can apply in their daily practice.
